That Blasted Blue Blazer
When was the last time you saw a guy wearing a blue blazer and it looked amazing on him? Unfortunately, blue blazers have become a boring go-to that a lot of men feel they need in the rotation because it’s what good ol’ Dad wore, or what they know from the 80’s and 90’s- before color and pattern came in with a bang in the 21st Century.
Blue blazers, if not updated and paired well, just make a man look outdated. If you are the guy that sports a blue blazer with massive shoulder pads, huge lapels, and gold buttons, it might be time to “toss it in the trash” Bruno Mars-style, or better yet, donate it to a local charity.
What constitutes a blazer? A blazer is a solid-colored jacket with no plaid, checks, or window panes. You can rock a blazer and look smashing, but it can’t be old school. Try a jacket with some cool buttons (not gold), lighten up the blue shade from navy, and don’t be afraid of a texture (note: NOT a pattern like plaid) such as herringbone. Solid jackets can be a huge compliment in your wardrobe, just be ready to take a small step out of your comfort zone. Pair a solid jacket with patterned pants or a bold shirt!
There is no rule saying blazers must be blue, so if you’re feeling adventurous try a mauve, olive, tan, light grey or other color to really shake things up. A unique blazer choice will get you compliments left and right, and help you stand out in the crowd at your next business event, date night, or vacation. Be The Man!
