We Have to Wear Them, so You Might as Well Like Them - Pants and Shirts

I really love talking about the fit of pants and shirts, because a few simple tweaks can improve a man’s look drastically. I have some clients that like a relaxed fit in their shirts and pants, but most are looking for a tailored fit. Not too much to ask for, right? Well, you’d be surprised.

Clients looking for a tailored shirt fit may have to sacrifice the sleeve length or neck size in order to get the right fit off the rack. Once you get the neck and sleeve right, it might cause you to give up the tailored look.

Pants can be tricky to size as well. For men that have either a prominent or flat seat, it can feel impossible. If your wife has mentioned that your pants are saggy in the back, do not fret! Custom trousers are your solution because they have a way of making it look like you have a butt, even if you don’t. Believe me, your wife will be shocked at what a difference tailored pants make.

Men who find themselves filling out the seat of their pants a little too much may find themselves worried they’ll bust a seam open in the seat or thigh area while picking up their pen at a business meeting or getting in and out of their car. Custom trousers are the solution for you as well, to get enough room in your seat and thighs while fitting your waist.

A few things I look for when it comes to a great fit for shirts:

  • Sleeve length- The shirt should hit right at the break of the wrist, no longer or shorter.

  • Midsection - when looking at a man from the front, I like to see some tapering with minimal tucked fabric hanging over the top of his trouser.

  • Neck size - when wearing a tie, the collar should fit comfortably. It’s painfully noticeable if it’s too tight or loose.

A few things I look for when it comes to a great fit for trousers::

  • Seat and crotch - As mentioned above, having a good fit in the seat is crucial to comfort, but also appearance.

  • Length -  A timeless length is medium break. Not dragging the floor and minimal sock showing while standing.

  • Leg - not too baggy, and not skin tight. Just right, and flattering to your body.

If you’re reading this asking yourself, “I wonder if my pants and shirts fit, or look as good as they could?” or “I don’t like the fit of my clothes, but I’m not sure what to do about it”. Send me a note, and let's talk about what improvements could be made. You’ll be glad you did, and feeling better about how you look than before. Trust me, it’s worth the effort to have clothes that fit you!
